“Detail oriented, endlessly patient and a natural leader” are just a few of the words used to describe Whiteland Community High School JAG Specialist, Elizabeth Moffett, on Tuesday as she was honored with the JAG Indiana Glynn Hines Lifetime Achievement Award for 2023 at the annual State Training and Awards event.
The GHLAA is given to a member of the JAG Indiana family that has given years of dedicated service to the program and its students. Elizabeth, who has led the WCHS JAG Family for a decade, seemed a natural choice.
“Other Specialists in our region look to her as a natural leader, seeking her mentorship and advice on various topics,” noted her JAG Manager, Sara Beth Meyers.
Elizabeth’s caring style in the classroom has not gone unnoticed in and out of JAG. She also earlier this year was named with the Clark-Pleasant Foundation Legacy Award for her work in the school community.
“Elizabeth is a leader whose superpower is listening,” said her JAG Coordinator, Jo Dumontelle, who was named with the GHLAA in 2022. “Her experience gives her a substantial track record of collaboration with people and agencies both in and outside youth programming.”
Dumontelle added that what Elizabeth has helped her students have to overcome the last few years has been something perhaps only she could navigate.
“Her heart allows her to customize her program to the varied and critical needs of Whiteland youth every year. Earlier this year, one of her follow up students committed murder, and mid-year, Whiteland was hit by a tornado. I don’t know of any other Specialist who could manage these extreme traumas.”
Elizabeth’s influence, though, is not restricted to her school community and her region. Earlier this year, she was selected by Jobs for America’s Graduates national organization to be one of their trainers, and she will be the lone representative from Indiana serving in this capacity in July.
“Hers is a powerful voice in ensuring that the region, state and now the national program understand the rewards and challenges of the front-line role and to build a model that best serves our students and schools into the future,” added Sara Beth.
The Glynn Hines award is named after Hines, who demonstrated a lifetime commitment to JAG in the classroom and beyond during the nascent stages of JAG being in the state of Indiana.
